Seiko SKX007 - The Perfect Affordable Dive Watch

Affordable Seiko

This photo review is my personal experience of buying a second hand Seiko SKX007 - the perfect mechanical dive watch at an affordable price point. This excellent timepiece is one of Seiko's best selling dive watches from their sports line. Although it is considered a budget watch, Seiko takes pride in the excellent quality and performance of their watches at all price points.

The Seiko SKX007

This 41mm, 200m rated diver is complete with a 'Seiko 7s26 mechanical movement' which was originally introduced in 1996. It features both a day and date window, 21 jewels, and has a 48 hour power reserve. The watch comes in a number of different styles; all of which have the same case, but differences in bezels, dials, and hands.

The case is well polished to a very reflective finish, with the screw-down crown located at four o'clock, and the case-back engraved with a tsunami wave. The crystal on the SKX007 is a Seiko proprietary mineral crystal, 'Hardlex', which is shatter resistant and more scratch resistant than other regular mineral crystals. It's surrounded by a 120 click, unidirectional bezel which is grooved for an easy grip, and clicks very smoothly, with the perfect resistance when turned.

My Personal Experience

I was first introduced to this watch by @waikato , an 'IWC nut' who used to co-organize the Toronto Redbar with @constellation_m. I bought my Seiko SKX007 second hand from one of my friends who had purchased the watch from a Jewellery store in downtown Toronto (Canada) called Gem Bijou. The watch was originally purchased in March 2016. I bought the watch for myself in mid July 2016.

The watch was originally equipped with a black rubber strap, however, my friend replaced it with a Nato Strap and ended up losing the rubber straps. I personally didn't see this as much of an issue as I prefer Nato Straps anyway. He did; however, include the receipt for purchase so I can still get the watch serviced if I have any issues. Over the course of the past few weeks I took every opportunity to change the strap to a Nato that would either match my outfit or suitability for the event I was attending.

My Week with the Seiko SKX007 in Pictures

Seiko SKX007 Bond Nato Strap

I decided to dress my Seiko SKX007 with a James bond Nato Strap for this day as I was attending a wedding. This combo was the perfect match for my suit, and the occasion.

The following day I went to watch the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Game at the Rogers Center. Although my seats were not the greatest, I was in the company of some good friends and enjoyed some beer and peanuts. The Blue Jays beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 in case you wanted to know.

Later in the week, I visited my friend whom I purchased the watch from. Of course, when hitting the water, I wore the watch with an Orange Nato strap, the perfect dive combo.

Seiko SKX007 With a Navy Blue Nato Strap

Over the weekend one of my good friends @hkyaqeen invited me over for dinner where he prepared a delicious organic meal consisting of pasta, lasagna and salad. The salad was made from vegetables from his own urban garden. As can be seen in the picture above I was holding some fresh organic, artisanal  cherry tomatoes in my hand. On my wrist you can see the SKX007 paired with my favorite Nato, the Navy Strap.
